Last nice weekend

Posted by KayLee in Untagged

It was a great weekend. The boyfriend and I were able to get out for what seems to be the last nice weekend. A cold front is coming in with lots of rain and a huge drop in temperature so I'm glad we were able to get out one last time. Drove up to Stanley, ID Sunday morning, stopping in Horseshoe Bend to fish at the pond, then stopped a couple times on the river as well. Got checked into the hotel and headed to some lakes for some fishing. Martin Lake wasn't as good as last time, but still fun to be out there. We woke up and ate breakfast at the lodge on Redfish Lake and finally caught some trout on the SF of the Salmon River. Hung out here for too long and headed towards Sun Valley a little late. Stopped at a pond here and caught some more trout, ate dinner and got back home very late. Still a great weekend!

Sawtooth Mountain lakes

I really want to get up into the Sawtooth Mountains and fish some high altitude lakes, but looking at a map, I just found out that there are 170+ lakes (that are labeled at least). I know of a few bigger ones that I definitely want to hike to and fish, but I don't know if some of the others are fishable and what the terrain looks like. Most lakes have trailheads leading to them, but there are so many more that don't. I guess I'll just keep a checklist and try to hike to a few each summer. I've seen some pictures of some beautiful brook and cutthroat trout that were caught in these lakes. I'd also like to find some arctic grayling which I've heard are up there.

Reno/Tahoe 2011 trip

Had a great week in Reno/Tahoe and explored 9 new fishing spots. I'll have to get all my pictures together and create an album so everyone can see what they look like. Some of the most beautiful lakes I've been to. Can't wait to go back, but hope the fishing is better next time!

New state records

Wow,  it was announced yesterday that there is a new Idaho state rainbow trout record of 34.74 lbs, breaking the old state record by 14.72 lbs! http://www.ktvb.com/home/Record-rainbow-trout-caught-in-Idaho-126257908.html
Today I am reading about the two anglers who brought in a 67.65 lb common carp over the weekend at C J Strike, which is where Bronco66 and I had already planned on fishing this next Sunday. I've seen carp close to this size brought in before and hopefully we can get snag or shoot some with my bow! http://www.ktvb.com/community/blogs/maggie-omara/Thats-a-GIANT-carp-126246218.html

Fishing marathon

We have this next Monday off and instead of going out to a lake, we're going to try to hit all of the little fishing spots in and around Boise. We'll see how many we can hit in the morning while it's still cool out. There are a bunch of little local ponds and the Boise river should finally be down. Hopefully we can catch a fish at every spot, but we'll see. Should be fun.
