I ended up fly fishing quite a bit this year with a bit of luck! I caught a huge channel cat on a hopper, being one of my most memorable catches this year. I also caught quite a few trout on some alpine lakes! I also caught a few bass and trout and a sucker on some of the smaller rivers around. Overall I do like the fly fishing for smaller lakes and streams, but rod and reel I feel was and will be my go to method. I felt the top-water or dry flys were more my thing because I could see the action and knew what was going on. After the flys sink, I would just have to watch the line. I know there are indicators to help with that, but wasn't sure when to use them or not(lake vs. river.) Also when I'm bottom bouncing a river with rod and reel, I can feel it. I don't know how to feel what's going on the using a wet fly in the rivers. I'll be working on that a bit more next year.
