17 inch Northern Pikeminnow (Squawfish) caught at Ozette Lake, Clallam County, WA, USA

Length 17 inches (estimated)
Weight 2 lbs. (estimated)
Catch Date 01/10/2010
Kept/Released Kept
Location Ozette Lake, Clallam County, WA, USA
Bait/Lure (Not specified)
Description We caught several of them, most were about 1.5-2 lbs. They would hit anything we gave them - so it was a great day of fishing for the young adults with us. The fish actually tasted good, but we learned later are quite high in mercury, so best to kill (as they are non-native, go after rare salmon fry,) don't eat, and let the eagles pick them up off the water behind you.

Ozette Lake is one of the most beautiful and pristine lakes anywhere. Huge. Yes, the nearby sea coast is stunning, as is watching the sun linger on the low horizon from our cabin on the Ozette shore, while we listened to the surf of the ocean beach 2.5 miles in the west, is an unmatched experience. Nearly untouched, the Lake is a gem - for fishing, hiking, or experiencing the golden, warm waters.

If we could turn in Pikes' for money at Ozette, I'd never leave.

That is one of my favorite areas in Washington State. I haven't been to Lake Ozette but there are some beautiful places to hike out to the coast. There are giant boulders and small islands, it's a really cool place, but the raccoons are pretty crazy out there if you plan on camping.

You can actually turn in Northern Pikemonnow for money on the Snake river.
