Wednesday night was an awesome trip. This will be one charter I will remember for a while. They were a fun group of guys and they took home lots of meat. After dropping the lobster gear we set up on a bass spot. We sat on the spot perfectly. The spot didn’t bite until it got dark but as soon as it did, fish were coming over the rail 2 and 3 at a time. Three of the four passengers wanted to forget about the traps and keep fishing bass. The number of lobster we caught was small but the quality was unbelievable. All but one of the bugs was over 5 pounds. Sorry I don’t have pictures. I forgot the camera. Through the course of the night we picked at the lobsters. We caught one or two lobsters a set. We fished the bass a couple of times later during the trip but it was nowhere like the first spot. We still picked at the bass. We also caught a ton of crab on the trip. They took home nearly 90 crabs. I have never seen my bait tank that full of crab and lobster. I felt like I was Captain Sig Hanson from the Deadliest Catch. At 10:30 we were out of time but the group was having so much fun that they decided to buy another hour of hoop netting.

Chris and I decided to head back out after dropping off our customers. We were hoping for an early morning crawl on the bugs and to load up on some crab. After we set the gear, Chris went to sleep and I never saw him again until we docked in the marina and started scrubbing the boat. The lobster fishing this trip was tough but the Bass fishing more than made up for it. I must have caught somewhere around 30 Bass for the night. The bass fishing was so good that it was almost boring. The quality of the fish was outstanding. I had one Sand Bass that was about 6 pounds and a Calico that was 5 pounds. Every bass was over 16 inches. It was one fish after another. Most of my bass were caught from 3a.m. to 5 a.m. I have not seen a bass bite in the bay like that for a couple of years.
The weather is supposed to clear up by the end of the weekend. I am running an open party bass only trip on Tuesday night. Dick from Purfield’s will be coming out with me. The cost is only $100 for a spot on the trip. Come out and take advantage of this outstanding Bass fishing.
