TOPIC: Feedback Needed: Fish weight and length for achievements

Hey everyone! The Facebook App has launched and has been a success so far!

One thing I'm noticing is that certain big catches aren't getting the "Trophy" achievements they deserve. There are 2 achievements for many popular fish types - the "Nice" fish achievement and the "Trophy" fish achievement. For example, if you catch a good sized carp you would get the "Nice Carp" achievement, and if you caught a gigantic carp you would get the "Trophy Carp" achievement. The idea behind this is that most people who fish a decent amount should be able to earn a "Nice Fish" achievement, but the "Trophy Fish" achievements should be a lot harder to get but not impossible.

I am not enough of an expert on all types of fish, and I need you guys to give your opinion so we can decide the length and/or weight required to earn both the "Nice" and "Trophy" achievements for each of the following types of fish:

Alligator Gar
Barracuda
Bonefish
Carp
Catfish
Cobia
Crappie
Dorado
Drum
Halibut
Kokanee
Largemouth Bass
Mackerel
Marlin
Muskie
Pike
Salmon
Shark
Smallmouth Bass
Snook
Steelhead
Sturgeon
Swordfish
Tarpon
Trout
Tuna
Walleye

Smallmouth Bass
Nice: 3.5lbs, 17 inches
Trophy: 5lbs, 20 inches


Please use pounds and inches. Also keep in mind that some of these are for specific types of fish (like Steelhead, Largemouth Bass, Alligator Gar) but some of these are for families or groups of fish (like Carp, Catfish, Trout, Tuna).

I am certainly no muskie expert but I will throw in my 2 cents worth!!

nice- 40"- 18lbs

trophy- 50"- 28lbs

Also, the sample weights given for smbass look good as they are!!

For trout nice = 4lbs 20"
trophy = 7lbs 25"

Here's a few:

Chinook Salmon:

Nice Fish: 40 lbs
Trophy: 50 lbs

Coho Salmon or Steelhead Trout:

Nice Fish: 15 lbs
Trophy: 20 lbs

Pink or Sockeye Salmon:

Nice Fish: 10 lbs
Trophy: 12 lbs

Dorado:
Nice Fish: 30 lbs
Trophy: 40 lbs

Blue or Black Marlin:

Nice Fish: Any
Trophy: 500 lbs

Of course not all fisherys would be equal such as a King Salmon caught on the Sacramento River (88lbs) would not be the same as one caught on the Kieni(97lbs 4oz).
How about, to be a trophy it would have to be 90% of the record for that species and fishery. Oregon King Salmon (83lbs) www.landbigfish.com/staterecords/default.cfm

That's sounds pretty good. The Achievements system doesn't calculate by area though, we have to set a single number for "nice" and "trophy" for the different species.

OK I understand how about 50% for Nice and 75% of world record for Trophy.
I was able to download the world records onto Excell, from there you should be able to write the formula to get the 50 and 75% values.

I think a percentage formula would work. It is unlikely you will get responses for all the species.
