Fishing Report for 10/14/2013

Rating: Good (4/5)
Fished below the spillway, in camping area behind power station. Powerbait-tail-wigglers in the water by 0800. 16-inch rainbow, caught within minutes. Tons of little perch, too many to count. Good bites, for 3 or 4 hours, trying to get the big mama-jama's breaching the surface in the middle, but no luck. What are those bigguns'? Bass? Good Columbus-Day-morning fishing.

Fishing from the bank was slow so we took a canoe to the rocky shoreline in the narrows and slammed a pocket of fish and hooked about 20 a piece including bass perch and crappie. Using large gold spinners seem to work the best.

Fished above the Dam just below strike dam road. nothing really, a couple of Bass and a perch. Went below to fish. Parked across from the camp ground and just slayed the bass. they were feeding on baby perch and hit everything thrown at them. Nice size as well. Chech out my instagram for pics x-poe

Fished below the dam again for sturgeon an bass and still couldn't hook up. Went above the dam in a cove with plenty of rocks good for hiding bass and still no bites using plastics and worms and shrimp and spinners and rapalas and swim baits. Nothing we did could catch a fish.

Fished some of the coves and managed a trout for each person that fished but no real action. Caught a nice 14 inch and ate it for dinner. Fished below the dam also for sturgeon and no bites in hours and also fished along the snake and still nothing from the grand view boat ramp all the way up to the dam again. Sturgeon fished at night and still no bites.

Tried cat fishing in some shallows in about the only camping spot we could find and had 7 poles out with all different baits and size of baits and not a single bite in hours.

The Air Force boat ramp is the only one not frozen in at this time but it is very icy on the ramp itself. Ice has formed in the coves and people are ice fishing the narrows with some luck jigging bait.

Fishing Report for 07/13/2012

It was overcast and windy but went out anyway and couldn't get bites on spinners so we trolled crappie jigs and boated about 30 bass between 3 and 12 inches. Nothing else was biting but kept getting hits on 3 poles at once. Lots of fun but a variety of species woulda been nice in bigger sizes. Shot the biggest carp of my life with a bow on the river below

Had 3-4 bites on power bait, one on worm within a couple hours. Missed all but one good 14" rainbow trout. Would have been better if the water stayed like glass but the wind picked up and stayed through the next day. Water was really choppy in the morning too.

We got out below the dam at about 7:30am and tried for some sturgeon and fished with worm for a bit but no bites. We headed to the reservoir at about 8:30. We caught a perch off the rocks by the boat ramp within ten minutes but nothing else and we headed north up the lake. Stopped along the brush by the shore and started catching bass 6-12 inches on spinners. Our friends were using jigs, didn't get any bites and kept getting snagged so they switched. We started seeing some suckerfish and spotted some carp in the reeds and took a couple shots with my bow. Overall, an ok day. The wind really picked up at about 10:30 and the swells were too big to be comfortable on our little 12ft boat. That lake is terrible when it's windy so get there early.

We drove all the way to C J Strike to try to put the boat in and test the new motor but we found that it was too windy and the lake had 2-foot swells. We decided to drive till we found a calm part and just bank fish. I already had an orange spinner tied on and ended up getting a bluegill on my first cast. Caught a couple little bass under 6 inches and one a little bigger. We were happy to at least catch something for as bad as the weather was. A huge storm was on it's way in too. We'll probably head back out there in a couple weeks and try to get some of the massive carp that live there.
