John Heinz Wildlife Refuge is also known as Darby Creek.
Fishing Report for 06/19/2010
Darby Creek runs along a trail that separates it from the impoundment at the John Heinz Wildlife Refuge. I often go at low tide when the depth of the creek goes from about 6' to 6" twice a day. Some areas has water completely disappear. This forces all of the fish in the tidal estuary to bunch up in some large pools.
I went a few times last summer and fished with chicken liver and would catch fish after fish. Lots of blue gills and some catfish. Rumors of bass, but I haven't seen any yet.
I expected to repeat my success this spring but my chicken liver + low tide formula completely failed for some reason. I went today with nightcrawlers and that did the trick. I hit a couple of bluegill right away.
