Fishing Report for 08/24/2010
Again, fishing is good early (of course, I can only go early in the day, because we've been leaving for the parks around 9:30 AM and not getting home until after 8:00 most days). Anyway, good bites on soft plastics, particularly creature baits in junebug or green pumpkin. Spinnerbaits in lake shad or golden shiner have been productive, too, and as long as your throwing into the thickest grass, you'll find the bass. Lots of smaller fish (1-3 lbs.), but I suspect fishing the same conditions in the main lake will yield bigger prizes.

Lots of bites - bluegill, gar and bass all went for soft plastics and spinnerbaits. Got a gar to hit but broke the line (wasn't a big one - maybe 24"), got a few bluegill and some smaller (1-1/2 to 2 pounders) bass working the weedlines. I tried from Brinson Pier and the Pier by Big Toho Marina. Fishing has been decent early (6AM-9AM). Try finding pockets along the weedlines or isolated clumps of grass separate from the weedlines and fish will be there.

Went to the Brinson Pier, got a few smaller bass along weed edges. Spinnerbaits and creatures seemed to work well, and 7" worms dragged through the thick grass got a few strikes. Make sure your soft plastics are junebug or green pumpkinseed and spinnerbaits are golden shiner or shad colors.

Rented a boat to explore the whole lake. Way too hot once it got to be 9:30 AM. Tried grassy areas in the north, south and west parts of the lake. Lots of gar, but nothing worked on them. Got a few smaller bass with a spinnerbait worked along the weed edges. Pitched a creature bait in junebug back into pockets in the weeds for a few bites. The biggest bass was a 3-1/2 pounder, and that was caught in the shad of some taller grass. Try the weed edges that are near boat cuts and deeper water (4-6 feet) for the best bites.

Tried spinnerbaits, plastic worms, and lipless crankbaits along the weed edges to no avail. Pitched some creatures into the deeper weed pockets for a couple smaller bass, and picked up a quality fish on a spinnerbait in dense grass. Hard to develop a pattern, because I got no duplicate bites, everything was random and scattered.

The bass were in shallow water, holding scattered around the weed edges. Spinnerbaits and plastic worms worked along the edges produced good numbers of smaller fish, but pitching creature baits into the denser weeds came up empty. One big fish at the weed edge, but mostly 2-3 pounders.
