Fishing Report for 07/18/2011
It was a hot, windy weekend in the canyon. After not having much luck trolling, me and 2 friends stopped at a few different coves a jigged a bit and caught about 10 Smallmouth Bass all about 12" and under, 9 Perch around 11" and bigger and 5 Walleye all under 13". We were happy to catch fish and I was stoked to get my first Walleye, but this weekend we had heard was no where close to as good as the last, but this is the second time I've heard that now after only having had two trips here. I think its a conspiracy against me.
Temperature: 95 °F
Fishing Report for 06/17/2011
Fishing has started to show signs of life, and people are catching a few trout, bass and even a few walleye. The reservoir is filling and the water is murky but fish are hungry so anglers are starting to take advantage. Walleye tournament is this weekend, so lets hope the fish start biting.
Fishing Report for 06/11/2011
Where to start> Left home Friday afternoon for SFCR and made 3/4 of the way there and my truck shuts down on the highway. No brakes, no steering, no lights, no shoulder on this construction part of the highway. I mess with the truck a bit and get it started. We made it to the campground and go to sleep after just missing a huge hailstorm. Next morning we got the boat on the water and troll around for a bit then decide to drift the shoreline for Walleye and jig. No bites. We try and move but the boat won't start. I'm trying for a half hour and my hands are getting sweaty. My next pull on the engine pull start rope, my hand slips off the handle and I had turned somehow at the same time and nut shot my self with the pull ropes plastic handle. I immidiately got sick and was dry heaving off the side of the boat and got motion sick and just about puked and shat on the boat, started sweating profusely and was ready to call it quits. about 20 minutes later I was able to collect myself. The boat still didn't start so we bobber fished for another hour or so in the middle of the lake not hooking shit while drifting towards the shore. I try to start the boat again and get it running. We troll around some more and fish a few more banks with no luck. We take the boat out and head to Jackpot for lunch and a little gambling and I won a hundred bucks. We head back out to the water and the boat works fine. We try drifting the shores again but as we go to a new spot the boat quits again. I get it started but its sputtering and will barely stay on. We load up again and find a spot to camp and through out the poles and again no bites. We leave the next morning, and about the same spot the truck broke down the first time, it happens again. Some sort of electrical issue. We had a hell of a weekend. Couldn't get a single bite and anything with an engine wouldn't keep running. The only thing we managed to take home with us was a couple of ticks we have found crawling on either our pillows or the dogs or ourselves. No bites yet! Yay. From everybody we had talked to, the fishing the weekend before was hot, and the 2 days we were there were slow as hell and only heard of 2 small walleye being caught which is a bummer cause next weekend is the Walleye tourney for SFCR. The resevoir is supposedly 40ft higher than normal and some boat ramps and popular fishing spots are underwater. Supposedly this runoff and high water has been mostly this and last weeks runoff, which would explain the poor fishing.
